On 1st November, As-Salaam Foundation organised a remarkable shopping trip as part of their Smiles Project, purchasing £1,100 worth of toys from Smyths Toys, alongside toiletries and sanitation items. To make the day even brighter, they also included chocolates and a thoughtful card for the hardworking hospital staff.
This initiative, now in its fourth year, is dedicated to creating joyful moments for children and families navigating the challenges of critical illnesses. The project not only provides essential items but also offers a glimmer of happiness during difficult times.
A Collaborative Community Effort
The success of this project was a team effort. Steve Colton, manager at Smyths Toys, provided vital support by coordinating the logistics of the purchase, while local volunteer Sarah Turton and her family joined in selecting and delivering the items. Reflecting on the experience, Sarah shared, “My daughters and I had the pleasure of supporting a very worthy cause. It was heartwarming to see the incredible organisation by the charity and the generosity of everyone involved.”
At Peakstones, we were proud to sponsor this initiative financially, helping to ensure the Smiles Project could continue its important work. Our support reflects our belief that local businesses have a responsibility to uplift their communities.
Making a Difference Locally
The impact of the Smiles Project resonates deeply with everyone involved. Gohar, Chair Trustee of As-Salaam Foundation, highlighted the significance of the initiative:
“We have run this project for four consecutive years, and it brings nothing but joy to local children who are facing health hardships. Since the hospital is local, it brings extra special joy to us, knowing we’re making a difference in the lives of families in our own community.”
Supporting the Smiles Project
The Smiles Project is one of many efforts by As-Salaam Foundation to support families facing critical illnesses or hardships in Sheffield and surrounding areas. With continued backing from businesses, families, and volunteers, the foundation hopes to expand the initiative to reach even more children and families in need.
